Candidate Video Bio Transcripts

These are transcripts of video bios of the candidates.

Note that the audio quality is pretty poor on some videos, so these may not be 100% accurate. (?) means a word I am not 100% sure about, and (???) means I am missing one or more words here because they are completely inaudible. Actions are indicated in parentheses, e.g. (rolling around laughing at some of these videos).

Courtney Larkin

(Sitting awkwardly on a couch beside greenery)
Hi Tigers. My name is Courtney Larkin, and I want to be the president of your student union. I have the passion and dedication to be a strong leader to lead you to the change you want to see. Through the management skills and leadership roles, through being a vice-president, and through orientation week and Charity Ball, all of those skills will be easily transferred into the president's role. (Standing in front of a pink curtain with what sounds like teamsters destroying a building behind him)
Hi I'm John Hillman, I'm running for DSU President. Uh, I'm not going to make any crazy promises, uh, I'm not going to say there is going to be a Rihanna concert or promise you free tuition, but I will promise to treat your student fees with the same carefulness that I treat my own limited budget so you get the most bang for your buck. Uh, running out of time, so my website is www.freewebs.com/votehillman. Uh, and whatever you do, please come out and vote, the student union needs your participation.

Tara Gault

(Sitting in a chair underneath greenery.)
Hi my name is Tara Gault and I'm running to be president of our student union. Throughout the week, I look forward to meeting with you, listening, and talking about a DSU we can all be proud of. The DSU is more than a building. It is more than a collection of services and operations. The DSU is a way for students of all backgrounds, experiences, and interests to come together. Together we can rejuvenate student spaces like the T-Room, create a diversity space, and improve communication. Together we can make the DSU more approachable, more sustainable, and more empowered. You can see my full platform at votetaragault.com. Thanks for your time.

Gregory Debogorski

(Standing in the management building and above the noise in the Atrium.)
Hi my is Gregory Debogorski, I'm runnin for president this year for the DSU Elections. I'm lookin to create a program review, uh, some external auditing, I'd like to uh do things a little bit different this year, bring the students back into the Union. I think we need more accountability, more legitimacy in the, in the way things are run, I think we need to take another look at our constitution and have it addressed by, uh, law students. I, I think we need to start early, doing things different all the way around. It's time for change.

VP (Internal)

Victoria Jones

(Standing in front of a stone wall, speaking shrilly over other voices)

Daniel Boyle

(Leaning on the railing in SUB, tough to hear over people in background)
The DSU offers unparalleled opportunity for involvement and leadership. It is the duty of the Vice President Internal to make students aware and recognize their opportunities. The last two years, I have been deeply involved in this portfolio, and have seen it transform into an efficient mechanism for connecting with students, but there's still a lot of work we can do. To share my vision, visit danboyle.weebly.com and remember to vote from March 18-20th, Daniel Boyle for Vice President Internal

I've got experience being on DSU Council for three terms, I've got experience serving on Senate committees, and I feel I'm the best person qualified for this position. Jonathan Hughes

(Sitting on the stairs)
Hi, my name is Jonathan Hughes, and I'm running for undergraduate senate representative. For years I have worked as a referee in hockey and as such I have come to understand the intricate differences and subtleties between rules written on a page and how they are interpreted and applied. With that skill and experience I hope to represent you the student on Dalhousie's highest governing body. As your senate representative, I hope to build a stronger student voice. Thank you.

Kaylyn Fraser

(Sitting in the Grawood, with its wonderful acoustics)
Hi, my name is Kaylyn Fraser. As an active Dalhousie student, I understand the importance of student engagement and active communication between students, faculty, and the administration. If we in the student community are to succeed and grow, we require responsible governance and active involvement. I'm running for Senate I'm a dependable leader and I'm here to represent and foster responsibility and commitment. When you vote March 18 to 20th, vote Kaylyn Fraser for undergraduate senate representative.

Andrew Christofi

(Sitting.)
Sustainability. Certainly one of the most important concepts of the past few years. But how does this apply to the DSU? I believe it is done in two ways. The first is by furthering the interests of students wherever they are represented. Merely listening to students helps us solve the problems more easily. The second is through increasing student involvement. Having more individuals involved in the process also helps the problem solve itself more easily. I believe that I am the best candidate in the upcoming Senate elections from march 18th to 20th to solve these problems. So that's - it is why I ask you to elect myself, Andrew Christofi... [cut off]
